If you have been reading my blog regularly, you would know that I seem to love experimenting with pasta sauces. In fact it has been awhile since I made regular pasta using the red or white sauce. Butternut Squash Pasta, Quick Fix: Vegan Pasta made in Almond sauce, Sriracha Peanuts Pasta, Healthy Pink Spaghetti loaded with Veggies are just some new ways you can enjoy your pasta. I enjoy these challenges where I come up with new sauce ideas for pasta. The ones I have made so far have never been tried before at-least by me, they are all first attempts and successful too. Well, few years back I would have never believed anyone who said you can make Red Pepper Sauce for pasta!
I feel that kids are the most honest when it comes to giving feedback. Their immediate response to a dish is a make or break situation. My friend’s son can just smell the food and say whether he is going to like the food or not. So while my BFF was here with her kids, I always cooked with little skepticism. I really wanted their approval. Her daughter was very involved in the whole process, was eager to know the recipe I was making, she loved helping me and gladly even posed for me. I loved her enthusiasm. So when the pasta was ready, she was the first to taste it and her eyes lit up. The verdict was out – She loved the taste of it and took a promise from her mom that she will make it again for her once they are back home.
Red Peppers bring in a certain sweetness to this dish. It also makes the pasta sauce cream and tangy. What I have done here is, mixed white sauce along with the red pepper sauce. This gives the pasta a whole new flavor and texture. Plus the mixing of white sauce and orange-red pepper sauce, gives it a new and bright color. My friends and her children didn’t want any veggies in their pasta, hence I didn’t add any. However feel free to add any veggies you wish to make it more balanced. Also, I picked bow tie because the kids excitedly picked it out at the grocery store and asked me to use it. 🙂
Though I had no reference to compare, I just went with my gut and created this recipe. Using a grill pan , drizzle oil and grill garlic and onions till they appear charred. Remove from pan and set aside. Now add the bell peppers to the pan and grill them as well till they get charred. Once cool, grind them all together to a smooth paste in a food processor
. It will be of deep orange color. In a pan, warm olive oil
. Add the ground paste and saute it for 4-5 minutes. Now it’s time to add some spices. Add salt and Sriracha sauce
.
Once the sauce is cooked, add white sauce to this. I used ready sauce, you can use homemade sauce too. Next add oregano
, cooked bow tie pasta
and parmesan cheese
. Give it all a good mix so that the pasta gets coated well.
Serve hot along with some bread. You can drizzle some sriracha sauce on top if you wish to tone up the spice levels. Else just sprinkle some Parmesan and oregano on top and serve.
After the customary photo shoot of this dish, we all sat down to eat it and the kids enjoyed the meal. They called up their family back at home and were raving about this pasta while I was beaming with pride and content.

I am so glad that I tried this one out. It introduced me to new flavors and taste. My guests loved it too so that makes me a happy chef. KR couldn’t believe it that he was having red pepper sauce pasta. Well that is the case with most of my recipes, he ends up being pleasantly surprised once he gets to know the ingredients! I sincerely hope that you try this recipe out and let me know your feedback.
