Breakfast cereal revamped! Truly a fun way of having milk & cereal. This creamy Cereal Caramel Milkshake is lip-smacking and delicious made with gelato and cereal. Did you ever think that you could have cereal this way as well?!
Milk and cereal is one of the most common breakfast known to man! Today I decided to give it a makeover and this is what it looks like! I am already drooling looking at the pictures and I bet you are as well. This milkshake is the result of afternoon boredom. I have noticed that most of my kitchen discoveries emerge out of boredom post noon! Just 2 days ago I had made Hibiscus Strawberry Pastry Puffs in the afternoon and here I was today again making this wonderful drink. My craving for sweet dishes is on full swing these days. And I don’t know why! For someone who has never had more than 1 cupcake/slice of cake at a time, this is something very new.
While I was browsing pictures on Instagram today, I came across this gorgeous Oreo milkshake picture posted by a blogger friend. I was tempted just looking at it. Plus she had captured it really well. All in all the picture did the job efficiently – attract the viewers. That got me thinking. It had been awhile I had made milkshake. If I remember correctly, the last time was when I made Chocolate Brownie Milkshake. So yes, it had been very long. I didn’t want to add any fruits this time and was leaning towards making a peanut butter milkshake. While I went to grab the jar, I noticed the long forgotten cereal box sitting in the corner. Ever since we started having smoothies for breakfast, cereals became unpopular in my kitchen. Other than occasionally being used to satisfy my between meal hunger pangs, the cereal box was left unattended.
While the cereal box continued to stare back at me, my mind was running overtime like a horse. I got this crazy idea to use it in my milkshake instead of peanut butter and thank god for that! I planned to keep the recipe very simple with very few ingredients to retain the taste. While making this milkshake, I couldn’t help but remember my days back in Bombay. I never made a milkshake just for myself. I always had company of my brother and friends and we all would enjoy it together. In fact there would be days when my friends would just knock at my door and ask me to make an iced coffee milkshake and I would happily oblige. Over time, my milkshakes got famous and I was feeding nearly the whole apartment! 🙂
Now it is just me and KR. I miss making it for my gang. It is kinda boring to eat or drink by yourself. Especially when you are used to always having company. I enjoy cooking for friends and family and this milkshake is a crowd pleaser. I am positive that my friends back home would have enjoyed this milkshake and I vow to make it for them when I visit next. For now I guess only KR and me will get to enjoy this drink. In fact I am thinking of making this milkshake for the next game night I host. This is one crazy, delicious milkshake I have ever had. It is also a quick fix drink if you have some surprise guests at home or something to make for your child’s birthday party.
Here is what you need to do. Soak cereal in milk and leave it in the fridge for an hour. Once the cereal is soaked well, pour them into the blender. Add scoops of vanilla caramel gelato ice cream and blend it. Pour into a serving glass. Prepare a mixture of cinnamon powder and sugar.
Add fat-free whipped cream, sprinkle cinnamon + sugar mixture and some crushed cereal on top. Serve chilled. I even added a protein wafer bar as garnish.
Having soaked the cereal in milk before makes it blend easily and gives the milkshake its texture and flavor. I did that because I always like it that way when I have my cereal and milk. I let it soak for some time before I consume it. This cereal milkshakes taste awesome. Using the gelato instead of regular ice cream makes the drink more lighter. The caramel flavor mixes well with the cereal. Thus making this milkshake truly lip smacking!
- 1.5 cups milk
- 1 cup cereal
- 2-3 scoops of vanilla caramel gelato
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp crushed cereal

- Make it vegan by using almond/soy/coconut milk and any vegan ice cream.
- You can try different varieties of cereal to play with flavors.
Thanks to my sudden craving, I discovered this new flavor of milkshake. However now knowing this recipe, I don’t think I would enjoy the regular milk and cereal just as is anymore. I would prefer churning it to a milkshake instead and devouring it. Plus it is so easy to make. There is no extra sugar/honey to be added and can be made vegan using alternate options.
