Green Peas Shundal is a popular dish made during Indian festivals and offered to guests. Give the high protein content, it can also be eaten as an in-between snack. You can also call it Green Peas Munchies. They are very light on the stomach, easy to make, ready within minutes as well as nutritious. Thus making it every vegetarian’s dream dish. You can use different legumes/pulses/beans to make this shundal. Check my recipe of Chick Pea Shundal to get an idea. The process is nearly the same. However each one tastes different.
2 cups of frozen peas/boiled peas
1/2 cup shredded fresh coconut
2-3 green chillies
1 tbsp cumin seeds
Salt as required
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp cooking oil
Grind the coconut, cumin seeds and green chillies to a smooth paste, adding little water.
In a pan, heat the oil, temper the mustard seeds, fry the chana dal and urad dal till they turn golden brown.
Add the coconut paste to this and fry for another 2-3 minutes. Add salt as well.
Now add the green peas and mix it all well.
Cook it covered for 6-7 minutes till the green peas get cooked. Check salt and add if necessary. Sprinkle some fresh shredded coconut over as garnish as serve.
