A delicious snack for Summer! Grilled tofu marinated with Dorot basil & garlic sauce & served with chutney. Loaded with proteins, this grilled dish is yummy!
Summer is here and that gives me an excuse to take out all my colorful crockery from the closet, eat by the lake in my patio and to shamelessly host house parties every other weekend! This is one of my favorite seasons after the Monsoon. Well, In India, we have a Summer season followed by the Monsoon season unlike here in Florida where it rains during the Summer. Summers here give me the pleasure to experience both these seasons in one.
Even my cooking depends on which season we are in. In India, we like to eat hot and fried food during the Monsoon and during the Summer we prefer something cool and easy to digest. My mom would make potato and onion fritters nearly every time it would rain in the evening. We would all be welcomed home with an titillating aroma of these fritters being fried in hot oil and we would gobble it all up unabashedly.
Therefore when I came across this opportunity to create a summer special recipe for the Dorot brand, I grabbed it. I discovered this product a couple of months ago. It's an easy to use and innovative product that takes meals to an entire new level. The other thing that I love about this product is that it provides the perfect amount of herbs, with no prep or cleanup! Now that is a boon for food bloggers like me. They have some exciting summer flavors like cilantro, basil and BBQ along with frozen garlic. Check out their webpage.
I usually pick up my weekly stock of Dorot from Trader Joes. They are easy to find in the frozen foods aisle. These frozen herbs are a time saver and an innovative alternative to fresh herbs! It saves me all the hassle of cleaning, sorting and chopping. These cubes are ideal size to be used in day-to-day cooking. Plus it helps people like me who sometimes tend to forget to buy certain items on the shopping list and are searching for ingredients to the very last-minute. These frozen herbs have come to my rescue in dire situations.
KR and I being health conscious, I wanted to cook a nutritious vegetarian appetizer to satisfy our evening cravings. Tofu came to my rescue. First we need to squeeze out the water from the extra firm tofu to the fullest. Cut them in cubes. Heat a grill pan and place these tofu cubes on the pan. Add soy sauce and teriyaki sauce along with cooking oil and garlic powder. Grill evenly on both sides. Keep it aside for now.
Now to prepare the marinade. In a bowl, add the Dorot Basil cubes, Garlic cubes, salt, pepper, chilly powder, thyme, oregano, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix this all together.
Dab this mixture evenly on the grilled tofu and cook them again on a grill pan. Ensure that both sides are cooked evenly. Add oil if required.
Grilled Tofu Bites with Dorot Basil is now ready. Serve with with Coriander Mint Chutney and/or Red Chutney. These delicious appetizers can be served on any occasion/party or weekday snacking. They are healthy, packed with flavors and super easy to make! Thanks to Dorot herbs!
You can grill any kind of veggies and/or paneer (cottage cheese) as well using the same marinade. The process remains the same. These can also be served as a side along with main course. Let me warn you that they can get addictive and are difficult to resist.

Notes
Summer flavors and Dorot go hand-in-hand. Addition of Dorot totally elevates the dish in its own way. I enjoy cooking with such ingredients which are zero maintenance, hassle free and easy to use. Even though they are frozen, there is nothing artificial in it. Grilled tofu cooked with basil and sauces is just perfect and lip smacking. You must try it out for yourself and let me know how it was!
