Fire up your grill to make Muffin-Tin MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger Value Pack (or Packs), this Labor Day weekend. A perfect appetizer to be enjoyed outdoors with family!
Labor Day weekend is just around the corner and if you have still not decided on what to cook then do not worry, I have it all covered. I have lined up an array of interesting recipes all of this week to help you plan your menu. Let’s face it, Labor day weekend is mostly associated with shopping these days, but it can also be about spending quality time with family and friends that’s filled with love, laughter and good food. Summer is at its fag-end here in Florida and therefore this upcoming long weekend is a perfect excuse to use your grill and create some fun recipes for your loved ones.
Grilling food is so much fun. I have always enjoyed cooking outdoors, be it making Bhutta(grilled corn) or grilled veggies or burgers. The light seasoning, the crunch and strong juicy flavor grilled foods have, is one of the best. When I came across this opportunity from MorningStar Farms®, I gladly took it. I have already used MorningStar burgers before. When cooked right, they are delicious!! My favorite which is also America’s #1 Veggie Burger is the MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger. This can be easily found in the Frozen Meals aisle at Walmart. This time around, I tried to create something new and fun with these burgers.
The best thing about MorningStar Farms® products is that they’re an “as-is” meal solution. These burgers make cooking up a meal fairly easy. Also they are not just for vegetarians, but for everyone to relish. I would say that it’s a good option for families trying to eat right but with busy work schedules. I’ve used these burgers as both breakfast and dinner options before. A quick tip – though the package says they can be microwaved, they turn dry and chewy if microwaved, my suggestion – grill them instead to preserve the tenderness.
If you have a big game or a party planned for the Labor’s day long weekend, I would recommend you try this recipe. Instead of traditional burgers, this time around I decided to create bite sized, open burgers/sliders. These make great appetizers for a large number of guests. Trust me when I say this veggie burger is a real flame (;-)) changer and you need to grill it to believe it! Before we make the burger, we need to make some garlic butter. Melt salted butter, add garlic powder, mixed herbs and mix it all together. Keep it aside for now.
Then prepare green chutney. Keep it aside too. Remove the MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger Value packet from the freezer. Thaw for some time. I would suggest you thaw them while you make the chutney and garlic butter. Once thawed, heat a skillet and coat it evenly with cooking spray and cook these spicy burgers evenly on both sides until they are well done. If you wish to up the spice level, grill some jalapenos along with the burgers. Using a cookie cutter, cut each burger into a disc and smash it lightly.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Cut some water rolls in half ( I prefer water rolls, but you can use whatever bread you’re comfortable with). Using a glass, press the center to create a depression. Apply the prepared garlic butter and green chutney.
Line a muffin tray with liners. Place the bread slice in them. Add a lettuce over each bread slice and then place the cut burger over it. Top it up with sliced mozzarella cheese. Place it in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese melts.
Muffin-Tin MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger is now ready to be gorged upon. Serve them with some hot sauce and grilled jalapenos. Let me warn you in advance that you will need to make a large batch of these sliders as they are very addictive and will be devoured by all in a jiffy. But that is the case with outdoor grilling, you tend to keep on eating and enjoying the good company around. You can also serve MorningStar Farms® Veggie Dogs on the side to create an inviting spread. Do try this recipe out this weekend, you will not be disappointed!! Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!!
