Thai Mutter Paneer is a gravy dish made with green peas & paneer. The popular Mutter Paneer gets a Thai makeover making it an interesting fusion dish.
I love creating a fusion recipe every once in a while. It gives me the opportunity to mix different cuisines and create a new dish in the bargain.
After Indian cuisine, Thai and Chinese food are my favorite. We love visiting new Thai restaurants in our area and trying out their menu.
Even when we travel, we reserve one day for Thai food and check out the local restaurant there. Thankfully KR too loves this cuisine which makes restaurant choosing easy for us!
On one such outing, while digging into the red curry, KR suggested that I must create a Thai curry for Cookilicious.
It had been awhile since I had featured a Thai recipe here. It made perfect sense that I create some new and fun Thai recipes that I know we would love.
However, I didn't want to simply prepare the red/green curry.
I was browsing through my Pinterest feed and came across my Mutter Paneer recipe which is prepared in red gravy but very different from the Thai curry.
Nothing was the same apart from the color of the gravy. This is what gave me an idea to recreate this famous Indian dish by giving it a Thai flavor. Thus a new recipe was born!
The recipe is really simple and easy to make. First grind onion, garlic, ginger, lemongrass, red pepper flakes, and salt to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan
and fry this ground paste for 2 minutes. Then add the red curry paste
, mix, and continue to saute for 2 more minutes.
Then add coconut milk and green peas
. Bring it to a boil on medium flame.
Meanwhile, grill paneer cubes and toss them in the gravy. Garnish with cilantro and serve with bread/naan
or steamed rice.
Make this for a weeknight dinner or for a family brunch. It will surely win you many hearts.
The Thai flavors stand out clearly giving this gravy a new dimension and taste.
Now you have 2 ways of preparing this awesome dish - Indian and Thai! Green peas and paneer make one hell of a combo!

This is a very unique fusion recipe. Love how the flavored blend together to form a tasty dish. Thanks for sharing.
This is our absolute favorite curry recipe. I add a little curry powder when I add the red curry, about a teaspoon, and it adds a little extra flavor. Thanks so much for this recipe!
I am so happy to hear that! 🙂 Thank you so much.
This looks amazing - I can't believe how simple it is! I've never seen lemongrass paste - I need to hunt some down 🙂
Your photos are so vibrant. This dish looks delicious, perfect with some homemade garlic naan to mop all that sauce up... yum!
Oh my goodness. That red gravy is driving me crazy. It looks so good. I just want to grab a stack of naan and start dipping away.
I love Mutter Paneer! I totally want to make this this weekend.
this looks so yummy. I am not quite sure where to find paneer. I will have to hunt it down because you have made this sound so tempting I have to try it.
Paneer is like Tofu and can easily be found in any Indian grocery store. In fact, if you have Lucky's market nearby, its available there as well. 🙂
This looks incredible! I've never actually tried paneer but this looks so perfect
