Cotton Candy Milkshake is a fun, simple and super delicious shake that everyone will love! It’s the best way to use leftover cotton candy from the theme park!
We all have this happy memory of being in a theme park and enjoying cotton candy as we roam through the park leisurely! When we were kids, even if we went to the local fair, my dad would buy us pink colored cotton candy which we would happily devour. It has been one of my favorite growing up memory. It was served in a stick and usually our tongues would turn pinkish red after eating it. Me and my brother would then laugh at each other and act silly showing off our colored tongues. That is the beauty of being a child, you can enjoy life with zero inhibitions!
Cotton candy is called “Buddhi ka baal” back home. When it was first introduced in India it was white in color because there was no pink or blue food coloring back then. Even its texture was rough. In Hindi “Buddhi ka baal” means “An old woman’s hair”. Because this cotton candy was white and rough when it was first introduced, it was compared to an old woman’s hair thereby getting its unique name. Even today, I cannot resist a cotton candy if I see one and that is exactly what happened when we went to Busch Gardens last Friday to celebrate KR’s birthday!
Just 30 minutes into the park, I spotted the pink and blue cotton candy and had to buy it. Although I did enjoy eating it, it was a bit too much for me. KR suggested that I trash it but my appalled reaction made him take back his words. He had understood by then that I will be re-purposing it to create a new recipe. Swear to god, while I was on the coaster, all I could think of was how to use this leftover cotton candy in a recipe! Guess, the food blogger in me never takes the day off! I couldn’t wait to get back home just for this. Luckily, the next day, I was babysitting my friend’s 5-year-old daughter and she was completely sold out on the idea to make Cotton Candy Milkshake with me!
She happily assisted me all through the process and readily posed for the pictures. She wanted to play a part and I let her. Between spoon licks, non stop laughter and dancing to the tunes of the blender, we managed to whip up these delicious milkshakes. The recipe is super simple. First we need to melt white chocolate in the microwave. Dip the serving glass in it to coat the rim. Roll the glass over sprinkles and place the glass in the fridge.
In a blender, add milk, vanilla extract, ice cream and cotton candy and the leftover white chocolate sauce. Blitz it all together. You may add ice cubes in here if you wish to but that will dilute the shake.
Pour in the prepared serving glasses and serve chilled. My friend’s daughter was all ga-ga over this drink and she couldn’t contain her excitement even when her parents arrived to pick her up. She remembered all the ingredients we had used and urged her mom to try it again once they got home! Truly this milkshake is a crowd pleaser, the little ones especially will love it as it has everything they desire – ice cream, sprinkles and cotton candy!
