Quench your thirst this summer with lime mix, a refreshing, non-alcoholic drink for all ages. Chaat masala and ginger makes this drink flavorful and balanced.
A simple drink to cool you off this summer! Lime mix is a refreshing drink that is enjoyed all over India. With the increasing temperatures all around, this drink comes to the rescue to not just cool you off but to also cleanse you. This drink is tangy, chatpata and soothing. This is one drink that I have grown up drinking and there is a short anecdote related to this drink and my childhood.
We used to spend the entire summer vacation on the streets if not vacationing in our village. Our entire gang of friends would play silly childhood games outdoors without being bothered by the scorching heat. There was this one house we would all go to when thirsty. That aunty would always serve us chilled water with a warm smile. We would gulp down the water in one go and run back to continue our game.
Once, as usual we ran up to her window to drink water and gulped the glass down without a second thought only to blurt it all out the very next second. I had not expected it to be anything other than water. While my friends had a hearty laugh, aunty apologetically explained to me that she had prepared some fresh lime mix juice for us since we were playing in the sun. And before she could tell us what it is, I had gulped it down. Not that the taste was bad or anything, I was just not expecting it.
Later, all of us enjoyed this juice to our hearts content and thanked aunty for being so thoughtful and looking out for us. This recipe is my mom’s and is super easy. Pour water into a jar, squeeze limes in it and then add brown sugar/honey, chaat masala and ginger powder.
Mix it all together and serve chilled. Garnish with some fresh mint leaves and lime slices. This is the guarantee of a 9-year-old girl in a drenched floral cotton dress and withered plaits that this lime drink quenches your thirst when it matters the most!
