Soak the urad dal in water for at least 3-4 hours. Drain the water and grind it to a smooth paste without adding any more additional water. You can also add salt while grinding it. The batter should be thick and not very runny. In a mixing bowl, add the paste, ginger paste and green chillies. Mix and add the onions. Now add the dill leaves. Mix it well. Check and add salt if necessary. The batter is now ready. Now you need to heat the appe pan. I use TABAKH Bright AppamPatra Paniyaram Non Stick Pan with Stainless Steel Lid . As you heat the appe pan, drizzle some oil in each mold. Using a spoon or you hand, make small balls of the batter and place them in each mold. Drizzle some more oil over each ball. Cook them on medium flame for a minute or two. Carefully flip them over and cook the other side similarly. Take them out on a tissue paper to soak the excess oil. Serve them hot with any chutney or sauce. A very new flavored recipe which one can enjoy guilt free!
If you don't have an appe pan, you can also fry them.
