Masala Peanuts

Try this easy garlic flavored Masala Peanuts recipe at home. It's so much better than store bought ones. They are deliciously crunchy, spicy and addictive!

  • 2 cups peanuts
  • 4 tbsp chickpea flour/besan
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 1 tbsp chilly powder
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of hing/asafoetida
  • Half inch ginger
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 2 green chillies
  • Salt as desired
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tbsp Chaat masala

  • Buy de-skinned peanuts from the store and dry roast them. You can even buy the unsalted and roasted peanuts directly to save you time. Transfer them to a bowl, then add turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt and hing/asafoetida. Make a paste of ginger, garlic and green chillies and add this to the bowl. Then add chickpea flour to the bowl.
  • Give it all a good mix. Add little water and rice flour and ensure that the peanuts are coated well with the masala. Heat oil for frying. Fry the peanuts in small quantities and separate them while frying using the frying spoon. Soak the excess oil and transfer these fried peanuts to a plate. Sprinkle chaat masala and mix it lightly. Let it cool down to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight container.

Just add enough water to help coating the masala. The mixture should still be moist not watery.
