Amortentia is a powerful love potion. It's a non alcoholic, fruit based & drool-worthy drink that's sure to surprise your love one this Valentine's day!

We are obsessed with Harry Potter. It also helps that we have the Harry Potter's world almost in our backyard - The Universal Studios which we enjoy visiting at least twice a year. Personally I enjoy the books more than the movies. However the movies just help put things in perspective. Given our unconditional love for this magical world, it was only natural that I created some magical drinks like Amortentia this Valentine's day!

So whether you’re having a Valentine’s Day Game Night with your family, or hosting a Galentine’s Day Party or just making them to go with your Valentine’s Desserts, this drink is perfect for any occasion.

    What is Amortentia?

Refer the Harry Potter book/movie - Half Blood Prince which talks about this fictional drink. It has a different aroma for everyone who smells it, reminding each person of the things that they find most attractive. The effects of the potion on a person are described to be nearly instantaneous; with the person who drank the potion appearing "pale and sickly" and becoming obsessed with the object of their affections.

    My version is

    • Kid friendly
    • Made with fresh fruits
    • Can be made under 15 minutes
    • Perfect to celebrate Valentine's day

I chose fruits like raspberries, strawberries, cranberries and rambutan to make this love punch. Cranberries give the drink the required tang and tartness while the Rambutan and Raspberries give this drink the required sweetness. All in all, its a great fruit punch for you to try this day!

    How to make Amortentia

    1. In a pan add washed cranberries and water. Bring it to a boil and then simmer to cook till the berries burst and the mixture becomes thicker.
    2. Mash them with a spoon and using a sieve, strain the juice.
    3. In a blender, add raspberries, chopped strawberries and rambutan.
    4. Add sugar and lemon juice. Blend to a juice consistency by adding enough water. Strain this juice and add it to the cranberry juice.

    Serving Suggestions

Keep it chilled till it's time to serve. Decorate the rim of the glasses with salt and lemon juice. Pour the drink in it, add ice cubes, fresh mint leaves and some cranberries as garnish and serve chilled.

While this drink is ideal to be served on Valentine's day for the whole family to enjoy, it can also be served as a welcome drink at any party. It's refreshing, cool, tangy and sweet. Since Amortentia drink is supposed to remind each one of something special.

This drink reminds me KR's ruggedness, has an earthy smell to it and the color attracts me towards it. It surely does the job for me! How do you plan on celebrating this special day? Let me know in the comments below.
