Most favorite thing about summer – watermelon!

I simply love Watermelon! It's the watermelon season (which runs throughout the summer) and I cannot be any more excited about that! I like to add them to my drinks and smoothies and enjoy it as a mid-morning snack. But remember, it is slightly acidic and if consumed at night, it may delay the process of digestion when the body is inactive. That is why the best time to eat this fruit is around 12-1 pm when the digestion rate is high and active. You can have this drink daily because it's so refreshing, light and low in calories.

Doesn't this watermelon smoothie sound like the most refreshing drink ever for the long sultry summer days ahead of us?

Nutritional benefits of watermelon juice recipe

Watermelon by itself is a delicious and nutritious treat that many enjoy during summers. But this easy fruit juice drink is cool, naturally sweet, refreshing, and so hydrating! Plus, it’s vibrant and gorgeous too! This juice is healthy, has anti-oxidants, is low in calories, sugar-free and dairy-free. Studies have shown that consuming this fruit regularly also aids in weight loss since it mainly contains water and fiber.

This fruit-based drink has a very different flavor in comparison to other fruit juices which is why I love it. Include this drink in your diet and see what it does to you. It has the potential of becoming a staple at picnics and backyard parties everywhere. This is a drink that's loved by kids and adults!

    Trending now

I got this drink recipe from a friend of mine who lives in Chicago. We always exchange new recipes whenever we talk on the phone. Since we both love to cook and experiment with new recipes, we are always open to new recipe ideas. In this conversation, she gave me this drink recipe while I shared with her my Palak Paneer recipe. You see, this is why I enjoy my conversations with my family and friends. You never know when, where and what recipe is hidden in such conversations! This drink is different than the ones I have made before because it's spiked with certain Indian spices and with no added sugar.

    Ingredients needed

all the ingredients needed to make watermelon juice recipe - Sugar Free Drink placed in a tray

It's truly the ultimate Sugar-free Drink for summer! This easy recipe is the perfect drink to cool you down on a warm summer day. Especially the way Florida seems to be in summers, I think I cannot do without this drink. Thankfully, you need very few basic ingredients to make it at home.

    • Fresh watermelon chunks
    • Black pepper, cumin and, turmeric - They help build immunity and have healing properties. It's good to add them especially, in these times.
    • Black salt or Kala Namak - helps curb intestinal gas, bloating and, acidity. It's available in all Indian grocery stores and on Amazon. You can substitute it with regular salt if unavailable.

    How to make it

3 image collage showing how to make watermelon juice recipe - Sugar Free Drink

This juice recipe is really easy and simple. Having a good blender is essential in juicing. I am glad to have this blender in my kitchen and I whip up all my smoothies and fruit juices in this blender.

    1. First, add water and then add watermelon chunks in a blender. You can also add lemon juice.
    2. Then add roasted cumin powder, crushed pepper, black salt, turmeric powder.
    3. Blend it all together till a juice consistency is achieved. No need to strain this juice.

Add ice cubes in serving glass and pour this sugar-free drink in it. Garnish with some mint leaves and sprinkle some black salt on top. Then serve this watermelon smoothie chilled. Even better, store it in a pitcher and then keep sipping on it the whole day!

    Important tips

Your juice will only be as good as your watermelon, so find a good one at a farmer’s market or the grocery store. Instead of water, you can also use coconut water. That will make this Indian drink even more hydrating. You can also throw in some mint leaves along with lemon juice while juicing it to give it a more refreshing flavor. You can also make this watermelon smoothie and store it for 1-2 days in the fridge.

    Can you freeze watermelon?

Yes, you can but it will be mushy when it's thawed. I have used fresh fruit but you can also use frozen ones to make this drink. Frozen watermelon will be good for eight to 12 months, which is perfect to use when it is no longer the watermelon season. Cut and deseed the fruit and spread it on a tray. Flash freeze it for a couple of hours. Then transfer it to a storage bag and store it in the freezer.

    More drinks with it

Make full use of the watermelon season and make these delicious drinks for your loved ones.
