    Summer and Popsicles go hand-in-hand!

Do you have a favorite summer-time memory? Does it involve playing uninterrupted with your siblings and friends for long hours? Mine does.

Summer vacations were the best time of the year because there was no school and no homework. We would still eagerly get up very early in the morning to go cycling with our friends on rented bikes.

After we were done cycling, we would return the bikes, and walk back home. Now, came the best part. We would always make a pit stop at this one store to buy Popsicles.

We sure needed some sugar and energy in our body after having spent the morning in the scorching sun, cycling! We would then show off our colorful tongues to each other and laugh silly over it.

Kala Khatta and Orange were my absolute favorite flavors though.

    Trending now

Every summer, these memories come rushing back to me. My love for Popsicles goes way back. During summers, Mom would replicate the orange-flavored ones at home for us, but Kala Khatta was a tough one to make.

Kala Khatta is a dark purple, sweet-tangy sherbet that's made from blackberry (Jamun) fruit. She would also make Indian Masala Soda which is a sweet and tangy lemonade especially when we had guests over.

I decided to combine these two childhood treats and create a fun healthy Popsicle recipe that's not just fit for the summers but also loved by adults and children.

After all, nothing is more tempting than a refreshing, ice-cold popsicle on a hot sunny day!

That is how I came up with the idea of making Masala Soda Blueberry Popsicles which is my version of Kala Khatta Popsicles.

    Why use blueberries

Since I wanted to recreate Kala Khatta flavor and Jamuns were not available to me, I decided to go ahead with blueberries instead, for these reasons.

    • Blueberries are naturally sweet with a bit of acid
    • Low in calories
    • Nutrient-dense
    • Excellent source of vitamin C
    • Fiber-rich

Why make this Blueberry flavored Lime Popsicle

    • Low-calorie low-carb snack
    • Contains no artificial sugar
    • Vegan and keto-friendly
    • It is easy, healthy, and refreshing
    • Kids can make it too
    • Loved by both adults and kids

    Ingredients needed

all the ingredients needed to make Masala Soda Blueberry Popsicles put in a blender with name tags on them

I love this fun desi twist to lime Popsicles! It needs a few basic ingredients and can be made in a jiffy, which is why I love making these Ice Pops!

    • Blueberries - I prefer to use frozen berries. You can use fresh ones too. It is a perfect mix of sweetness and tartness.
    • Mint leaves - Make these Popsicles taste so refreshing and adds a delicious herbal yet fresh flavor.
    • Lemon juice - It helps boost the immune system and also offers that extra zing.
    • Black salt, cumin, and chaat masala - They bring in the salty and tangy flavor and should not be skipped.
    • Soda or Sparkling water

    Here's how to make it

Masala Soda Blueberry Popsicles in a Popsicle molds

This recipe is perfect for spring and summer and is such a healthy and refreshing treat at the end of the day! All you need is a good Blender and Popsicle molds to make this recipe.

    1. In a blender jar, add frozen blueberries, lemon juice, mint leaves, roasted cumin powder, black salt, soda or sparkling water, salt, and chaat masala. You can add little brown sugar if you want. Blend it all together.
    2. Strain the mixture and pour it into Popsicle molds. Don't fill it fully, just about 3/4 of it. Freeze overnight.

They’re also worth the wait while freezing because wait till you devour them on a warm, sunny day! Once set, you can then sit back and enjoy these delicious and chatpata Masala Soda Blueberry Popsicle all of summer!

This lime Popsicle is such a versatile healthy snack that you can totally eat it for breakfast, for an evening snack, in-between meals, or as an indulgent midnight snack!

Tips to make these real fruit Popsicles

My version of healthy Kala Khatta Popsicles is ridiculously easy to make. You may use frozen or fresh blueberries, however, frozen works better here. You can use regular water instead of soda or sparkling water.

Add any sweetener of your choice if you feel the need. If you don't have Popsicle molds, use any mold or even paper cups.

The easiest way to remove these Popsicles from the molds

The secret to removing these real fruit popsicles from the molds easily is by running them under warm water for a few seconds before pulling them out of the mold.

Tip the molds sideways and run the popsicle you want out under the warm water for about 10-15 seconds. Gently pull on the stick to loosen. If it doesn’t come out easily, simply run it under the water for a few more seconds!
