Ingredients needed to make this Iced Coffee

a round tray containing all the ingredients needed to make Dairy Free Dalgona Coffee

    • Milk - This is a milk-based drink. You can use any milk here - dairy or non-dairy. I used homemade Almond Milk.
    • Instant coffee - This beverage is easier with instant coffee.
    • Sugar - I have used brown sugar. But you can use any granulated sugar like white sugar, raw sugar or coconut sugar.
    • Ice cubes - If you are making a chilled drink, then add ice cubes.
    • Water - Always add hot water.

This is why I fell in love with this drink! Using just a few basic pantry staples, you can whip up this drool-worthy beverage that can be enjoyed by all!

How to make vegan whipped coffee?

6 image collage showing the steps to make Dairy Free Dalgona Coffee

This Korean coffee recipe is extremely easy to make! Here is how to make creamy coffee:

One suggestion - make the coffee froth right before you add it to the milk!

    1. Add instant coffee powder to a mixing bowl.
    2. Followed by sugar.
    3. Then add hot water. Mix it all together using a spoon.
    4. Now you need to beat it for a couple of minutes using either a hand whisk or an electric beater.
    5. Continue to whisk it till you get stiff peaks and it resembles a light velvety texture.
      • This could take a couple of minutes. Be patient.
    6. To serve it chilled,
      • Fill serving glass with ice cubes and pour chilled milk. Fill up to 3/4 of the glass.
      • Using a spoon, take a few generous helpings of the coffee whip and layer it over the milk.
      • For extra flavoring, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top.
      • Using your spoon or straw, stir vigorously to swirl it into your milk.
      • Sip and enjoy it!
      • Don't forget to take a photo!

The best thing is that you can also serve this Dalgona coffee hot. For that, heat a glass of milk in the microwave. Then follow the above steps to layer it with the whipped coffee. Serve hot.

Tips to make the best Dalgona coffee

    • The ration of coffee: sugar: water is 1:1:1 to make one cup. You can also use a sugar substitute but you may not get a stiff peak.
    • Use a big and wide mixing bowl to allow more air to get in. Tilt at an angle while whisking.
    • Feel free to use a milk frother, electric whisk, hand whisk or spoon to get that perfect froth texture. The electric whisk/beater will be your best bet if you want to save time and effort. This is what I used. Depending on what you use, it could take 2-10 mins for the mixture to turn a light brown.
    • For a light finish, stop whisking when it is still slightly runny.
    • Use instant coffee, not espresso or ground coffee beans. If you drink decaf, just use decaf coffee instead.
    • You can also make it with drip coffee but it needs to be very strong like an espresso. The results may vary depending on the type of ground coffee powder you have. You may need to whisk it longer when using drip coffee.
    • Use dairy or non-dairy milk to make this coffee.
    • Serve this drink in a clear glass to make it more appetizing and exotic.
    • You need to mix it together before drinking this coffee. The froth will have a slightly bittersweet taste if eaten by itself.
    • For extra flavoring, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top before serving. You can also add shaved chocolate or sprinkles as toppings.
    • Get creative by using this whipped coffee as toppings on muffins instead of frosting.
    • You can also refrigerate the leftover coffee foam for 2-3 days.
    • If making it for kids or you don't like coffee, simply replace the coffee with your favorite chocolate powder. You can also swap coffee with Thai Milk Tea powder and make your own Dalgona Milk Tea.
