First post of 2019! Woohoo! First, Happy New Year to all you reading this! I am so glad you chose to come here today. The fact that you are here could mean either of the two things - either you L-O-V-E smoothies and/or you are here because you take your new year resolution very seriously. You want to shed all those extra pounds you have probably gained in December last year (ssshhhhh, its our little secret!) and you secretly wish to go back to your old jeans that you have hiding from your partner who is insisting to throw it away! We all have been there. I think January is the only month which sees so many resolutions w.r.t to staying fit and healthy. Towards December, everyone is in a chilled out mood but come January, you realize that simply fun in life is not enough and that you need to take care of your health as well. Did you know the month of January also witnesses the highest number of gym sign ups! But I have noticed that the same enthusiasm seems to die down as the year goes by.
I tried to analyze this and realized that we are nothing but a sum of our habits. If we diligently stick to our good habits, we will proceed towards our goal. If my goal is to lose weight in order to stay fit, I need to take some serious steps to achieve that and not falter from my routine. I began working towards my goal to reach my correct body weight 3 months before the new year began. Like we all know, there are 2 main aspects to achieving any goal w.r.t our body - Food and Exercise! For the exercise bit, I joined Pilates and I think it was the best decision ever! I have tried walking, jogging, gyms, Zumba for ions now. The problem is consistency. I always tend to skip these activities sighting some excuse or the other. Apart from brisk walking and Zumba, I never really enjoyed working out but Pilates is something else! I love it so much that I do it everyday and I can happily say that it has yielded results and how! My old clothes fit me again, I feel light, energetic and confident. Now Pilates has smoothly become a part of my routine which I hate to miss! I have finally found the thing for me that works!
I am not saying you only need to try only Pilates, all I am saying is do what connects with you the most and then it will not require any extra effort from your end to keep continuing it. I really hope and pray that you find your true calling and make that your habit. I assure you, results will follow. Now coming to the food aspect which is a HUGE part of our lives. There is one section of people who eat to live and then there are people like us who live to eat. We take our food very seriously. This is the primary reason why diets don't work on us. We love good food a bit too much and cannot compromise on the taste and flavor. Salads are a big NO NO for me. I need my food to have spices and lots of flavor in them. Luckily I do not have a sweet tooth so I am not at all tempted. I also lead a clean lifestyle by choice and not by force. I do not smoke, hate Sodas, am an occasional consumer of fried foods and alcohol. I mainly had to take care of eating the right foods and of course portion control cause everything else was in control.
That is where my weekly meal planning came to my rescue. I diligently got down to plan our weekly menu, balancing the super-foods, working on different flavors and keeping it nutrient dense. I plan on dedicating January month as the month to kick-start our journey together towards good health. Next add orange wedges. No additional sugar is required. It tastes just fine. Blitz to make a juice. You can choose to strain the juice or consume it without. Kiwi Detox Smoothie
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1 kiwi
- 1 orange
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
